Critical Protection Considerations
Vapor/Gas Protection
While impervious to liquid threats, the HAZ-SUIT® does not fully block all skin-absorbed gases/vapors. For complete vapor protection:
- Fully encapsulated Level A suit + SCBA, or
- MIRA Safety MOPP suit (carbon-lined; passively adsorbs gases/vapors)
Design Note: The suit’s elastic hood/wrists/ankles limit—but do not eliminate—vapor ingress when paired with gloves, boots, and a gas mask.
Child Safety
NON-BREATHABLE MATERIAL MAY CAUSE OVERHEATING. Monitor children continuously. If signs of heat stress appear, evacuate and remove the suit immediately. Guardians are responsible for proper training and determining safe use duration.
Complete Protection System (Pair With)
- NIOSH-Certified Gas Mask/Respirator (APR, PAPR, or SCBA for Level B)
- Chemical-Resistant Gloves (e.g., butyl)
- HAZMAT Boots (overboots)
- ChemTape® for interface sealing
Compatibility: Optimized for MIRA Safety full-face respirators (CM-6M®, CM-7M®, CM-8®), TAPR®/PAPR systems, and standard hazmat overboots and butyl gloves.
Applications of MIRA Safety Haz Suit
- Civil Defense Preparedness
- HAZMAT Spill Response
- Military & Law Enforcement Operations
- Chemical / Petrochemical Handling & Maintenance
- Pandemic / Biohazard Response

Shelf Life & Storage Evidence
There is no universal industry standard for chemical suit shelf life. Based on naturally aged HAZ-SUIT® fabric over 20 years, a coverall constructed from this aged material was tested against the ASTM F1001 list of 21 chemicals with no breakthrough in >480 minutes. Physical property testing confirmed the aged fabric still meets manufacturing specifications.
Conclusion: When stored properly—cool, dry, away from direct sunlight and temperature extremes—the HAZ-SUIT® composite fabric shows no observed degradation in protective barrier or physical properties over time. As a result, MIRA Safety considers HAZ-SUIT® product shelf life undetermined (practically, decades under proper storage).
Inspection & Reuse Policy:
• Suits may be used as long as they pass visual inspection and, for vapor-protective (Level A) garments, the ASTM F1052 pressure test.
• Downgrade to training use if a suit fails visual or pressure testing.
• The wearer is responsible for verifying all components (fabric, valves, visors, gloves, zippers, seams, interfaces) prior to use.
Why Choose the HAZ-SUIT® Over Standard Biohazard Suits?
- Military-Grade Durability: Resists punctures from debris or falls
- Multi-Hazard Protection: Single solution for chemical, biological, and radiological threats (alpha particle barrier)
- Long-Term Reliability: Demonstrated barrier stability after 20+ years (properly stored)
- NFPA-Certified Options: Available by request for bulk/agency procurement
Disclaimers
- Suit integrity is the wearer’s responsibility. Inspect all components (zippers, seams, visors, gloves, interfaces) before use.
- Retire suits failing visual inspection or pressure tests.
- Performance data based on ASTM standards under controlled lab conditions; real-world variables may affect protection.
- For complete vapor protection, use Level A encapsulation with SCBA or MOPP systems as appropriate.
FAQs
Is this a radiation suit?
It blocks alpha particles and provides chemical splash protection; it does not shield beta/gamma ionizing radiation. For ionizing radiation, distance, time, and shielding protocols still apply.
Level B vs Level C—what’s the difference here?
With an APR/PAPR, HAZ-SUIT® is Level C. When paired with SCBA, it qualifies for Level B operations (splash protection with supplied air).
How long can I wear it?
Thermal stress—especially in warm environments—limits wear time. Follow your organization’s work/rest cycles and continuously monitor for heat stress (critical for children).
Can children wear it safely?
Yes, youth sizes are available, but continuous monitoring is mandatory due to heat load. If overheating occurs, evacuate and doff immediately.
Is it reusable?
Single-use intended; however, service life is based on inspection/testing. Garments that fail inspection must be retired or downgraded to training.
What certifications are available?
The consumer variant is not NFPA-certified by default. NFPA-certified styles are available by request for bulk/agency orders.
